Welcome to Rate_Photo_Art

Concept
This community is for LJ members who have an interest in photography and want real, honest, feedback.

Rules and Regulations.

Submitting a photo:

Note: Please submit up to ONE photo a day. You may submit more than one only if the photos are of a series and are to be rated as a series. There must be some relationship between the photos. Nudes or images with questionable content should be put behind LJ-cut.

Copy and paste this when you update. DO NOT USE RICH TEXT MODE! Use an LJ-cut. Don’t know what that is: http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=75.

Rating Guidelines

- When posting a photo, you must specify whether you want members to give you feedback, give you a rating, or both. Put your rating in the subject area of your comment. Use a scale from 1-10 (1-2 means you really messed up, 3-5 means if you re-shoot it could be good, 6-7 it is good, but there are some things that could be better, 8-9 excellent and 10, amazing). Then in the actual comment section, put your reasoning, feedback, and suggestions. You are encouraged to give more than a rating whenever possible.

-After 2-7 days of voting, votes will be tallied and you will be given a final averaged rating. After the rating is posted, voting is closed. Some weeks you may have to wait longer for votes to be tallied than others, but that is the set time. This short voting opportunity is due to the large amount of posts every day. Most members don't go back that far for to vote. When your post is stamped please change your subject to stamped. It makes the mods' job easier.

Promotion Links

Please see the Member's Page Website for promotion links. They are clearly listed, so you'll have no trouble finding them.

Application

Applying: Copy and paste the auto-application into an update journal entry for this community. DO NOT USE RICH TEXT MODE!

-Voting: You will have two days to be voted on. You need more yes votes than no votes to be accepted. Please do not post or vote on other applications until you have been stamped. If you are rejected, please stop posting. You may re-apply one month after initial application. If you continue to post after being rejected, you will be banned.

-Accepted Applicants: Please post a comment here with the link to your application. Also when you are stamped into the community please change the subject of your application to stamped. This makes it easier for the mods.

-Members who are choosing: Put either YES or NO in the subject area of your comment. Whenever possible, please write your reasoning in the actual comment. Votes of No and Yes alone are not very helpful to anyone. Please be kind. This community is about being honest and giving constructive criticism, not mean or vicious. Please keep the language clean. Please judge applicants' work and not who they are as a person.

USE AN LJ-CUT!!!! If you don't know what an lj-cut is, go here: http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=75

Themes

  • A theme will be announced via a mod post and will also be posted on the rate_photo_art user information page.

  • Once the theme is posted, members are allowed to submit one image or one series of images that relate to the theme. When making a themed post, please put the word "theme" in the subject line of your post so all mods and members will know.

  • Members will rate themed posts as they normally rate posts.

  • Each theme will last for two weeks. At the end of two weeks, the person with the highest average rated theme picture wins.

  • The winner gets their picture posted on the info page until the end of the next theme.

  • You don't have to submit a photo for each theme unless you want to.

  • Members can still continue to post non-theme pictures to be rated, but members should specify in the subject heading that their post is non-themed.

  • Themes are picked by all members and then voted on via polls at the conclusion of each theme. If you have any suggestions or ideas for themes, please comment to poll posts with your idea and your idea will be included in the next poll.

The reason for having themes is to encourage members to post more photos to be rated. We hope that this will encourage more people to show their work and explore new subjects within their work.
